CMH Summer Adventures has put together another outstanding line-up of guest speakers for their summer hiking trips in the Canadian Rockies. Some of the most spectacular scenery known to man, challenging hikes, mountaineering, gourmet mountain cuisine, comfy accommodations and now this speaker series come together to ensure a spectacular journey for both the body mind and soul.

July 24-27, 2012: Heli-Hike in the breathtaking Bugaboo mountain range of Western Canada with National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence, Wade Davis. Davis, an anthropologist, botanist, photographer, author and poet and a passionate defender of all lifes diversity is a wonderful storyteller who will pique guests curiosity as they ramble amid the majestic Rockies. Back at the Bugaboo Lodge, he will give his acclaimed Massey Lectures presentation, The Wayfinders: Why Ancient Wisdom Matters in the Modern World.

August 5 8, 2012: National Geographic author and editor Marybeth Bond, a leading expert and advocate of womens travel and author of 11 books, including the best-sellers 50 Best Girlfriends Getaways in North America, A Womens World and Gutsy Women, leads this Heli-Hiking escape at CMHs Bobbies Burns lodge. Marybeth and her daughter share the story of the 3,114-mile bike ride they took in 2010 from San Francisco to New York for the National Osteoporosis Foundation. This is an ideal setting for women to reconnect and have fun with those who have had a significant impact on their lives be it a mother, godmother, aunt, sister or friend.

August 8 11, 2012: Adventurer and world traveler Brian Keating has led over 80 expeditions to some of the planets most wildlife-rich corners. The host of the Discovery Channels Going Wild with Brian Keating joins his wife Dee to lead an entertaining (and sometimes hilarious) Family Adventure out of the Bobbie Burns Lodge for kids of all ages. Brian and Dee are superb storytellers and their tall but true tales and evening video presentations are CMH Heli-Hiking highlights.

August 26 29, 2012: Renowned polar explorer Eric Larsen returns to CMH for a story-rich escape in the Bugaboos. Larsen, the first person to reach both the North and South poles and the summit of Everest in the span of a year, shares his harrowing and amusing tales with CMH guests. Back at the lodge, Larsen will present Into the Heart of Cold a bracing account of this epic expedition.

September 7 10, 2012: Join grizzly bear expert Michael Proctor in the Bugaboos for daily hikes and walks filled with ursine lore, as well as insights into his research with the Trans-border Grizzly Bear Project. A lively presentation back at the lodge will show how the team uses DNA as a tool to understand grizzly bear ecology. Presented in partnership with the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC), 10% of the trip cost will go directly to the NCC for the protection of ecologically sensitive lands.

These trips are priced from CAD $ 2,565 for adults. Reduced rates apply for those under 17 years of age. For more information, please visit http://www.cmhsummer.com or call 1-800-661-0252.

(PRWEB) October 26, 2002

October 22, 2002. (Banff, AB)–Canadian Mountain Holidays (CMH) recently announced the expansion of their helicopter assisted mountaineering program to all five summer lodges for the upcoming season, adding on the Cariboo and Valemount Lodges.

In many lodges opportunities still exist for first ascents, under the guidance of CMH’s IFMGA (International Federation of Mountain Guides Association) and/or ACMG (Association of Canadian Mountain Guides) certified mountain guides. Challenges can start off easy and gradually pick up throughout each trek, or experienced mountaineers can tackle the toughest terrain from day one. All mountaineering packages begin with a thorough instruction or review on the use of ropes, knots, equipment and safety before being taken out into the mountains.

Valemount Lodge manager and IFMGA guide-examiner, Danny Stoffel said, “Our mountaineering team at all CMH lodges are very adept at introducing peaks to first-timers and hard-charging mountaineering experts.” Danny adds, “Our guides are the best in the business and first and foremost, take the guest’s skill level, comfort and safety into account.”

Samplings of mountaineering possibilities available at CMH lodges are:

Adamant Lodge – offers a climb of majestic Mount Sir Sanford, the highest peak in the Columbia Range. The east ridge of Remillard Peak is a fine, classic granite route with 4th or 5th class climbing and a glacial decent of two to three hours. Serendipidity Spire offers a pleasing mixed climb. Other possibilities include Casanova Mountain or Enterprise Peak.

Bobbie Burns Lodge – offers beginners from all ages the opportunity to tackle the summit of Mount Syphax. The ascent involves glacier crossing, rock scrambling, and some easy technical climbing, with a nice series of rappels after a summit lunch.

Bugaboo Lodge – offers mountaineering ranging from technical climbs of a high standard to moderate routes like The Empress, which summits the highest peak of the Quintet group via a short glacier approach and a few sections of 5.5 climbing.

Cariboo Lodge – offers magnificent climbing and mountaineering adventures, including first ascents. Mount Lester Pearson, a mix of snow, ice and ridge climbing, is ideal for beginners and intermediate climbers. Mount Sir John Thompson’s long ridge climb is for more experienced climbers and is endowed with vast views characteristic of the Cariboos.

Valemount Lodge – offers a variety of routes ideal for beginning mountaineers, mixing glacier travel with some fine rock scrambling. The aptly named Little Matterhorn, set in a gorgeous amphitheater of glaciers and peaks, rarely climbed because of its remoteness, is made accessible with CMH’s helicopters. This is a superb day for climbers who want to push their limits.

CMH’s mountaineering program runs from late June to mid-September and starts at approximately $ 1,167 USD per person, based on a ratio of three guests per guide for a two night stay, including all meals, accommodation, equipment and the undivided attention of your certified mountain guide.

Canadian Mountain Holidays is the largest Heli-hiking and Heli-skiing Company in the world, offering adventures for all ages and abilities. After 25 years of providing spectacular summer adventures to over 43,000 visitors, CMH continues to refine trips to meet the ever-changing needs of today’s vacationer.
