Heli Skiing in Terrace, BC with Northern Escape – Trip Preview
Dec 2010 29

In March 2011, Untracked Guides will travel to Northern Escape Heli-Skiing in Terrace, British Columbia.  We will be sharing our trip with you via a Trip Report on Untracked Guides, a published print article, and HD videos.  Our March trip to Northern Escape will be a great way to cap off an unbelievable season and we wanted to share some heli skiing stoke in advance.

Recently, we spoke with John Forrest of Northern Escape Heli-Skiing and he filled us in on the reasons why Northern Escape continues to be one of top destinations for heli-skiing in British Columbia.

Snowpack: The remote Northwest location of the Skeena Mountains makes for deep, dry powder all season long. Northern Escape benefits from the moist coastal flow of precipitation colliding with cold, Northern air, leading to deep champagne powder all season long.  Lots of heli skiing operations brag about their snowfall, but Northern Escape can let their terrain do the talking.

Down days = 0. Seriously, down days = 0.  Grab a beer with any experienced heli skier and have them tell you some stories about their experiences. Odds are you will hear a story or two about heli skiing down days.  We at Untracked Guides have experienced our fair share of these in the past.  Northern Escape has added cat skiing back up to all of their heli skiing packages.  This means that if the heli can’t fly, you are still going skiing.  The cat skiing back up area is as large as some of the top cat skiing operations in British Columbia and will keep you grinning on days that you would be stuck in the lodge with other operations.

Size matters….or is it how you use it?  In heli skiing a combination of size and how you use it will lead to the most pleasurable experience. Northern Escape has an extremely large tenure of terrain.  There are ~2,300 sq miles (6,000 sq km), with over 250 established runs, plus the chance to ski first descents on a daily basis.  I know we are looking forward to naming a few runs in March!

Proximity to the Terrace Regional airport makes for easy travel.  No need to worry about renting a car or driving down long stretches of mountain roads.  The Northern Escape Heli-Skiing lodges are within 30 minutes of the airport, which makes for a relaxing trip. The last day of heli skiing is a full day (no half days unless you choose to), giving you plenty of time to head to the airport after a light dinner.

Head on over to the Northern Escape Heli Skiing website or Facebook fan page to learn more.  Also, check out this opportunity to win a 4 day heli skiing trip. If you would like to chat with someone from Northern Escape, feel free to contact their office at: 1-866-619-3184 or info@neheliski.com.
